Abstract
Bacteriostatic test, as a key technology in the R&D and application of antimicrobial agents and alternatives to antibiotics, is an important skill for undergraduates in biology program to be proficient in. However, the relevant experiments in the experiment courses for basic microbiology discipline of most Chinese universities are unvaried in content, outmoded in teaching design, and lack of comprehensiveness. In this study, a comprehensive bacteriostatic experiment featured by "on class+off class" teaching model is established, in which a new experiment of "quantitative detection of the antibacterial effect of garlic extract by Oxford cup method" is organically integrated with the initial qualitative experiment, and a group discussion and design report writing are also added. The improved model can not only stimulate students' interests in experiments, but also groom their comprehensive experimental skills and research innovation abilities.
