Abstract
The Innovation Design Laboratory of the International Design Institute (IDI) of Zhejiang University strives to groom innovative talents via an educational model that incorporates the production, learning, research and application, and explore the management plan for laboratory and the training model of students’ ability to innovate, in a bid to improve the development of design education in colleges and universities. The laboratory puts a premium on the cultivation of professionals and talents with special characteristics from the aspects of teaching, practice, scientific research and so on. The laboratory starts with the training of students’ creative thinking and gives much weight to innovative practice to reinforce the innovative learning model and tutorial system in teaching practice. The laboratory continuously draws on the experience from teaching practice in creating a good learning base for students. A series of innovative measures are adopted to align the higher education with the requirements of talents. By delivering a large number of useful talents to design industry, the laboratory endeavors to provide reference for the cultivation of innovative talents in colleges and universities with the continuous development of society.
