Facile Preparation and Design of Superhydrophobic Surfaces with Re-entrant Structures

  • The complex environment which superhydrophobic surfaces faced in applications, such as in manufacturing, chemical industry, aviation and navigation, may easily cause superhydrophobic surfaces to be infiltrate by liquids and lost the original interfacial characteristics. Although the introduction of the re-entrant texture has made some progress in improving the stability of the superhydrophobic surface, the existing design of the re-entrant texture is difficult to achieve industrial application due to the complexity of preparation. Therefore, how to realize the practical application of re-entrant texture on superhydrophobic surfaces remains a challenge. This article proposes the design principle of a facile method to produce superhydrophobic surfaces with duplicatable re-entrant texture on micro pillars. To understand the influence of the proportion of the air cushion in the designed surfaces on the superhydrophobicity and stability, we imaged the impalement in three dimensions by confocal microscope.
