Research on the Integration of Virtual Simulation Technology and Marine Science Experimental Teaching

  • The experimental teaching links related to offshore oil and gas exploration have been difficult to implement for a long time. In addition, students majoring in marine science generally lack necessary relevant practical operation learning and training. In order to solve the above problems, virtual simulation technology has been introduced by Hohai University into the experiment teaching courses related to offshore oil and gas geology, based on the strategic objective of building China into a strong maritime nation and the cultivation of high-level personnel in marine science. Therefore, a virtual simulation experiment teaching platform system for offshore oil and gas exploration has been constructed. The teaching system builds an immersive virtual scene with the aid of real restoration of an advanced marine geological and geophysical research vessel, which integrates research achievements in the frontier fields of offshore oil and gas exploration. This system aims to improve students’ practical operation and investigative analysis, and comprehensively applies a variety of teaching methods. Moreover, it has designed a challenging comprehensive experiment that integrates four experimental links, including submarine topography and geomorphology investigation, marine geophysical survey, marine geochemical survey, as well as analysis of offshore oil and gas accumulation elements. In this way, the difficulty of the experiment is improved, aiming at cultivating students’ comprehensive ability and advanced thinking in solving complex problems in the field of marine science, and promoting a new marine science experimental teaching based on the perspective of offshore oil and gas exploration.
