Exploration and Implementation of Virtual Reality Technology in Biological Field Practice

  • Biological field practice is an important practical education module in the biology discipline. Traditional biology practice in colleges and universities have problems such as insufficient number of experienced teachers, single teaching methods, environmental damage to the field practice sites, and safety risks. Virtual reality (VR) technology provides an opportunity to solve these problems. The article introduces the current application of VR technology in higher education; and proposes the construction method of virtual simulation teaching resources for biology field practice, by integrating VR, Unity3D, panoramic video, three-dimensional digital reconstruction, and digital elevation model construction, a realistic and interactive field practice environment is built with immersive experience. Taking the VR teaching practice at Central China Normal University as an example, the article analyzes the application effect of VR-based biology field practice teaching. The survey results show that VR-based teaching practice can break through the spatial and temporal limitations of traditional teaching, stimulate students' learning interest, enrich teaching forms, and help improve teaching effectiveness.
