Design and Implementation of a Raspberry Pi Smart Conference Room Management System

  • The Raspberry Pi Smart Conference Room Management System course offered by the School of Information and Software Engineering at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is designed as an interdisciplinary, progressive, and challenging comprehensive project. This project aims at cultivating students’ ability to apply software engineering principles to comprehensively construct a smart conference room management system, covering the entire process from requirement analysis and system design to functional implementation. Through three semesters of teamwork, students are organized into groups to complete a software-hardware integrated project incorporating technologies such as the internet of things and facial recognition, thereby enhancing their ability to solve complex engineering problems, practical skills, and innovative thinking. The course emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, requiring students to dedicate 48 class hours each semester to collaboratively develop and optimize the project. Students face multi-platform development challenges spanning administration, reservation, and conference room front-end systems, including Web, mobile applications, WeChat mini-programs, and wall-mounted Raspberry Pi terminals. The project design focuses on comprehensiveness, systematization, and challenge, encouraging students to prioritize system security, user privacy protection while implementing functionalities, and to incorporate innovation. Additionally, the course aims to enhance students’ teamwork and project management skills, allowing them to assume different roles within teams and experience the entire process from project planning to execution through hands-on project work. Through this course, students gain valuable practical experience, laying a solid foundation for future work in the field of intelligent systems.
