Abstract
The experimental project for “Determining Spontaneous Combustion Characteristic Parameters of Materials”, part of the national first-class undergraduate course “Fire Combustion Science” in fire protection engineering, utilizes the basket heating method to determine the spontaneous combustion activation energy of solid combustible stockpiles. However, due to the heavy workload and long time consumption, this experiment faces considerable difficulties in implementation during teaching. To improve this experimental project, this paper designs an experimental process for determining spontaneous combustion activation energy based on the Jones method, and compares the experimental results with those obtained from the basket heating method. The validation results indicate that the spontaneous combustion activation energies determined by the basket heating method and the Jones method are 74.7 kJ/mol and 79.3 kJ/mol, respectively, which are close in value. The improved experimental project can be completed within two class hours, facilitating its organization and implementation in experimental teaching.
