The Best Preservation Method for Bdellovibrio Bacteriovorus in Teaching of Microbiology

  • Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus,as a substitute for the virus,is often used in the teaching process to observe its infection mechanism.The internationally recognized long-term and efficient preservation of Bdellovibrio is vacuum freeze drying method and liquid nitrogen freezing cryopreservation method.Although both methods are quite effictive,but they are not suitable for teaching.This report studies on the best preservation method for Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus in laboratory teaching.During the course of these studies,we mainly focused on three methods,which were compared glycerol preservation at-80℃,glycerol preservation at 4℃,and plate preservation at 4℃.The results showed that for long-term preservation,the preservation method of-80℃ glycerol had the best effect and remained active after 18 months,followed by glycerol plate preservation method at 4℃ for a maximum of 11 to 12 months.
