Abstract:
Under the context of “Double First-Class” construction, although hardware facilities in engineering practice platforms of universities continue to be upgraded, the lag in environment and management systems severely restricts the cultivation of students’ engineering thinking, safety awareness, and professional competitiveness. Integrating 5S management (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) from the industrial field into education and teaching has become key to solving this problem. Taking the Engineering Practice and Innovation Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology as an example, it has established a deep integration framework of smart manufacturing scenarios and 5S, optimized equipment lifecycle management, innovated a “process tracking–dynamic feedback” quality system, and established a PDCA cycle improvement mechanism with student participation. Implementation results show that 5S management significantly reduces equipment failure rates, improves tool utilization efficiency, and effectively strengthens students' professional literacy and systems thinking. This practice verifies the effectiveness of 5S management in ensuring teaching safety, optimizing resource allocation, and synergizing with labor education, providing systematic and scalable methodological support for engineering education innovation.
