Abstract: Conducting a structure design competition can cultivate students practical and innovative ability, and can promote the cultivation of civil engineering professionals, discipline development, and teaching reform. This paper summarizes the problems that should be paid attention to the process of structural design competition model design-selection-processing, and analyzes the current situation and shortcomings of domestic structural design competition. Domestic universities have not paid sufficient attention to the structure design competition, and making further reform is necessary. This paper discusses the current structural design competition reform. For colleges and universities, to reform teaching system in the classroom, to establish an open and shared model experiment platform outside the classroom as well as to fully utilize student's associations such as the Structure Design Competition Association are key measures for the reform of the structure designing competition.
